Balloon do’s and dont’s
Balloons – we love them, but there are certain things balloons don’t love. These are sharp, rough or hot objects!
A balloon may pop if they come in contact with sharp or rough surfaces such as bricks, trees, grass, walls, car doors, pins, scissors and more. Static may also cause a balloon to pop as well. Don’t place balloons near TVs and computers. Hot objects such as hot surfaces, hot cars, hot metal, hot lights, flames and more may cause a balloon to pop. Smoke may also affect the appearance of a balloon.
Hot Weather
Balloons don’t like sun and humidity. Hot weather will cause a balloon to pop. The direct heat of the sun will pop a latex balloon, cause a foil balloon to expand and pop and change the appearance of a balloon. They will start to oxidise – that is, start to look clouded and fade when placed in the sun.
Cold Weather
Cold weather will make foil balloons shrink. They may look like they are deflating but it is the cold air causing the balloon to shrink. Keeping a balloon at consistent temperature will prolong the life span of a balloon.
Rain
Balloons don’t like getting wet. It can affect their appearance, float time and may cause them to pop.
Outside
We love to celebrate outside. Balloons look great outside, but they don’t last long outside. There are many hazards for balloons outside. Wind, rain, heat, cold, sun all impacts the life and look of balloons. Wind will cause the balloons to fly around and could hit trees, grass, sharp object, rough surfaces all causing a balloon to pop. Balloons and trees, grass, bushes, bricks, building surfaces and more all don’t mix well with balloons.
Playful Pets
Whilst our pets are cute, they have sharp teeth and nails that can damage balloons. Store balloons away from pets for the safety of the pet and the balloon. Ensure balloons are not left with pets as they may become entangled in balloon strings or could ingest part/s of a balloon.
Cars
Balloons and cars don’t mix well. Balloons should be in cars for as little time as possible. Keep them out of direct sunlight if possible. Poor ventilated areas may cause a balloon to pop.Do not place balloons in a hot car. Turn the air conditioning on in the car before placing the balloons in a hot car.Do not leave balloons in the car for an extended period of time. Once reached destination remove from car immediately. If balloons are in transport bags, please remove them out of these bags once destination is reached. Do not leave the balloons in bags for long periods of time.
Little Ones
Never leave a child unattended with balloons. A deflated/popped balloon could be a choking hazard, or they may become entangled in the balloon strings.
Balloons on Ceilings
Before releasing any balloons onto a ceiling, check the ceiling first. Is it a smooth surface? Are there any hot lights? Any sharp areas? All these factors may cause balloons to pop.
An ideal environment for a balloon is indoors away from any of the hazards mentioned above. Once we deliver the balloons to you or you pick up from us, we are no longer responsible for the balloons. It is up to you to follow the care instructions to prolong the life of your balloons.
Float times will vary by balloon size, balloon material, whether hi-float has been used and environmental factors. The larger the balloon, the more helium inside, the longer it will float.
Helium balloons should never be released into the air. When you are finished enjoying your balloons please pop and discard in the bin.
